For those of you who may not have already heard, I am indeed back from my two-year exodus to the land known as Cincinnati, Ohio, and my homecoming talk will be at 9:00am on Sunday, June 22 (which is this very Sunday!) at the Valley View stake center. The address is 2245 E. 3900 S. and I can give you directions if you need them. I hear that there will be delicious breakfast items afterwards.

Do you know what's funny? I have about 48 hours left to prepare this talk, and I still don't know if I have a specific topic. I should remedy this tomorrow, shouldn't I.

ArgggH. I am so tired of the snow. I have traditionally welcomed it with childlike wonder, occasionally running around with my tongue out in front of complete strangers to catch a feathery crystal. However, due to my shoes being constantly wet, the roads being perpetually slippery, and the Campus shuttles being even more heinously tardy, I have decided I am fond of snow s'no more. Ha ha. But this is no laughing matter. So I propose the following. I am going to rent a helicopter, fly several thousand feet in to the atmosphere, and punch these snowclouds in the FACE!!! But wouldn't that just release more snow, you might ask? Perhaps, but at least the clouds would know the consequences of their actions. They would incur the wrath of my precipitation indignation.

Note: Were I to have the time or money for skiing/snowboarding, I might reconsider, but til then, this ain't over.

Three Things... the return...

1. I had a thought thrust upon me when I was in Idaho of all places. And to think that moments earlier I had stood at the Utah/Idaho border and laughed and laughed. Still makes me chuckle just thinking aboot it. Ppssst, Idaho, he he. Anyhow, the thought was this: bitter people don't necessarily become bitter because of a bunch of bad experiences. Often, people let bitterness creep in because of living too many average days in a row. When we become too accustomed to the normal, the normal becomes dull, and we grow callous to the mediocrity that is often our routine. I'm not saying that we all need to abandon doing laundry, making our bed everyday, or cutting our toenails (well, less than I already do...), but why can't I be happy when I'm dusting my desk lamp? And even if I'm not, why not strive to be so? Not to say that we have to be elated at brushing our teeth, but I think that if we lose focus on striving to enjoy the moment then brushing our teeth becomes just another part of a routine. Which becomes another chore. Which becomes more of an annoyance, and then we're just doing one more thing to make it through another bad day. Pres. Packer once said,"...unless we strive with all of our might to live by the Spirit, we cannot generate enough light to push back the darkness." (paraphrased). I had the thought that unless we strive with all of our might to enjoy life at the moment of living, we cannot generate enough happiness to push back the bitterness. Don't lose focus, and don't have too many average days in a row. 'k, I'll get down now.

2. I just recently had a discussion over how cool and revolutionary the Nintendo Game Pad was (you know, the one you could play the Nintendo Olympics with). I'm definitely convinced that it needs to go on my top 5 list of most important technological advances to grace the children of the 90's. Which reminds me, I need to make the list - suggestions?

Wow. Last week I actually got to pour some gold, much less see any at the mine. I work with two of the refiners at the gold mineI am interning at, and one wasn't working that day, so I got to help pour, clean, stamp, and stick the bars in the vault. It was freakin' awesome. One gold brick weighed 19.54 kilograms, or 43 pounds, and consisted of 630 troy ounces of gold. With the current cost of gold being about 670$ an ounce, I hefted a 421,000 dollar object today. Too bad I won't see a dime of that. Ocean's 14, anyone?
I was, however, able to forge the "One Ring to rule them all" while I was there, so...watch out Middle Earth....it is very....preciousssssss...

Many people have asked me and Amberly( my fiance ) about our engagement story. I would answer each person that asks, but due to my own laziness I will just post a note. Shizaam.

Welllll..... We have been dating about 8 months, and I finally made up my mind that I wanted to marry her. So, a few weeks ago I talked to my parents and got their blessing, then talked to Amberly's parents to get their blessing. We were both pretty nervous, but the words eventually came out, and all was groovy. Now I just needed to get Amberly's blessing.

About two weeks ago, I asked Amberly to go on a hike with me on a Saturday evening up Bell's Canyon adjacent to Little Cottonwood Canyon. i told to make sure she had the evening free, so i guess i tipped my hand a little. She had a hunch I was going to ask, but just didn't know when or where.

We started the hike at about 6:45, hoping to get to a nice lookout point(or waterfall if we could make it that far) by sunset. Unfortunately, the hike was much steeper and longer than I remembered, and we both were getting really tired without much sign of the trail ever ending. It didn't help that we had been swimming three hours just that afternoon. After about 2 hours or so of hiking, we finally found a nice vista to stop and eat our picnic. i had brought some subway sandwiches that I had bought at blimpie. Unbeknownst to Amberly, I had made a "special" sub that contained a "special" package inside...namely, the ring box. I had asked for an extra wrap at blimpie and wrapped up the "special" sandwich in it, and hid her vegetarian sub else where. After about 3 bites( I was trying not to watch) she noticed an odd shaped object in her sandwich that she thought was a large vegetable, but upon closer examination, turned out to be a ring box in a baggy covered with lettuce and mustard. So I finished my sandwich, did the whole get on one knee thing...and yada yada yada, she said yes. Well, at this time, it almost completely dark and we had to hike all the way back. We finished our subs, packed up the rest of our picnic and headed down the rocky slope with nothing but small LED lights. We must have accidentally taken the longway back, because we didn't end up getting back to the car until 11:15. Needless to say, we were pretty exhausted.

We went to Galveston Island this weekend. We saw a water spout over the bay and thought it was a tornado a'brewin. Actually scary. It fell apart, then reconnected with the water, then dissipated again. The waves were warm even though the afternoon was overcast. Overall, much fun.

Mr. Ron Howard. I think he should be Sir Ron Howard by now, but notpooers will honor him this day, and that's better than some old British thing, right? It's hard to find a good picture of him, for his was not a face to be admired, but a face to be listened to for direction to make a good movie. This is the best one I could find.

Anyway, let's honor Mr. Ron Howard today for his contributions to the world of media as we know it. He made a bunch of good movies that you've probably seen, like A Beautiful Mind (2001), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), Cocoon (1985), The Da Vinci Code (2006) (which was pretty good), Far and Away (1992), Apollo 13 (1995), and holy crap he's made a lot of good movies. I could go on and on; who of us didn't like Splash (1984) or Backdraft (1990), or Willow (1988)?? For the love of Pete, I can't believe he made Willow! He produced The 'Burbs (1989) which is one of my favorite movies and Curious George (2006), which is one of my favorite soundtracks.

Recently, he supported the best show on television, Arrested Development, which I think took both good sense, guts, and a well-honed sense of humor. We like that show at my house.

He said, "I really believe that great creative ideas will find their way to the surface." Let us all ponder upon that thought.

Friends, let us give credit where credit is due. Ron Howard, we salute you.

I've used to subscribe to everyone's page, that way I can see whenever anyone updates their page without having to go visit everyone's blog independantly. I still dream of diesel computer processors. Thank you, that will be all. Ok - one more useless tidbit found while I was checking out Google's new products - did you know 'LDS' is Googled almost twice as much in Slovenian as in English? I think we have the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia to thank for that.

Yes, you heard right. A student stole my phone. I don't know who this student is but I deffinately know where my stuff was and I know the phone is now no where to be found. I'll admit that I'm rather upset for two reasons. Reason one: I just bought the new Samsung t629 yesterday and I hadn't even had the chance to drop it or get make up all over the screen. Reason two: I no longer have any of your numbers. See, here it's humid, and that just makes the cold colder. I got a really sweet winter coat from a departing missionary for free-ninety-nine so I'm at least mildly insulated from the cold, but the toes do get a little chilly on occasion. And see, funny thing about toes -- no matter how warm the rest of your body is, if your toes are cold, you're pretty much miserable. Guess who is asking for warm socks for Christmas?

So there you go. You couldn't ask for anything easier. :)

So I was visiting some friends of a friend, when the sister of one of the friends of said friend gave me the nicest thing anyone can ever give. A customized Redlobster nametag with a novelty label. I am in. I am official. I am the lobster King!

Little Did I know that this would attract the attention of a nearby rogue lobster! It was frightening, but thanks to my recently acquired "lobster" reflexes, I was able to handle the situation quite nicely, with butter and lemon.

But this was one feisty lobster. He wasn't done with the fight just yet!

After a few more hours of epic battle, we decided to hug it out, and combine our forces . Timmy is now my Secretary of Pinching and partner in crime! Arrgh, we're pirates!

Variation on a theme

1) Carpal tunnel syndrome from playing Guitar Hero for too many consecutive hours. It really hurts. I played through the pain until my pinkie just wouldn't grasp the frets any longer. I still have three songs to go before I beat the game.

2) Cooked my first bacon-wrapped sausage. The trick is you've got to cook the sausage to medium-well first, then wrap it, then let it fry until the bacon is how you like it. Sounds like gooooood eatin'.

3) Lost my voice cheering. I consider this a major honor. Seriously, I couldn't be more pleased. Despite losing, my team gave me something to cheer about, and I felt I did my part.

So I was thinking all day that I was going to have to stay up late tonight writing a book review. I wasn't dreading it TOO much since I'd actually finished the book (I know, journal moment), but just the same. Researching the author and finding some review of the book to comment on, then typing into the wee hours of the morning, then going to the class at 7:30 . . . not exactly the greatest combination, if you get what I mean.
I'm sure you can share in my delight when I realized that the due date had been moved back and the date I had been looking at was the previous one.
Maybe I'll actually stay awake tomorrow morning.

Outer space and deep space has always absolutely fascinated me.

Jupiter has been my favorite planet since I was in 4th grade. Everyone would give me a hard time saying things like, "You would die if you lived on Jupiter" or "Earth is the only planet that I love." Oh yeah, where else can you see a huge red dot on the planet's surface? Scientists can study everything about Earth because we live here. They can't study everything about other planets because it is too dangerous to go out there and find what really makes those planets do what they do.

First manned mission to Mars anyone?

2) I have a new secret fear. Secretly I fear that I might be Jet Li. I was thinking aboot this the other day when I went to see the movie Fearless. It occured to me that I've never seen myself in a picture with Jet Li. And if I think aboot it really hard, I'm pretty sure I know Kung Fu, it's just in my subconscious being supressed, perhaps brainwashed out of me by myself for my own good. What if I have been evading my potential this whole time without realizing who I am? I shudder at the thought of how hard I would have to practice to fill my own shoes. Scary.

3) Choirside Sunday @ 7pm - be there AND be square. It's amazing how that works with choir events.
