I broke down.
There comes a time in life when you look at the shoes on your feet and say, "Eight years is long enough, Chuck Taylor."
I purchased new shoes yesterday. I never buy new shoes. It was a sad day. I'm on my third pair.
I got my first pair at the beginning of my freshmen year in high school. I wore them everyday and, in so doing, wore the soles off them in nine months.
I got my second pair at the beginning of my sophomore year in high school. I didn't wear them as often but often enough to love the shoes.
Time passes.
Chuck Taylor Converse All-Star becomes popular to wear. I dig them out of hybernation. They start the get holes in them. Straw that broke the camel's back=the guys at work were giving me a hard time daily for a couple weeks about the condition of my shoes.
Thus dawns the third era of time.

Wow Al, I get a new pair of shoes like every other week. Good choice though.
My brother the 32 year old lawyer still wears his Chuck Taylors around town. He feels like a real live person.
I hate getting rid of a pair of really comfy shoes. They were with you through so much, its almost like throwing away a friend. Perhaps a rather worn-out, frayed, shabby and oft-times smelly friend, but just the same . . .
Is the new one bigger? Or am I get closer to the new shoe than the old one it is next to and the perspective makes it look bigger?
I agree that the new one looks bigger.
The new shoes are a half size smaller. The old shoes are just so worn out.
Hey-yo!
