#1. "You brought a Canadian Commie into our home!!!"? Is that a quote or other? #2. Susie Derkins. "Derkins" was the nickname of Watterson's family beagle. #3. I was never aware that Susie ever mistreated Calvin. She's a vocal conscience. I would attribute some of Calvin's success and ingenuity to the motivations of the 'Calvin/Susie' relationship - i.e. I think Calvin has a crush on Susie, which causes him to try harder at whatever it is Calvin does, subliminally perhaps, motivated nonetheless. Either way, Susie is more Marge to Homer than Lucy to Charlie Brown.
I too believe there is some sort of crush going on between the two of them that she is unaware of at present but he is head-long into hence her reaction to him most of the time. He's a jerk to hide his insecurities and feelings, she doesn't understand what his malfunction is and reacts accordingly. Oh Calvin, if you could only learn she would warm up to you if you weren't constantly throwing snowballs at her.
Hey! remember that one time when Calvin saved a snowball in the freezer inorder to hit Susie in July, catching her totally off guard. However, in the very moment of attack he missed! Than she gathered the remenants and hit him. Such brilliant irony. Anyhow, I wish I could remember what happened.
Yeah, Jeremy, that is a quote. We were watching The Bourne Identity at Ashley's house with "Matt Damon," and I was explaining how I was Canadian once. When I was in Russia when the war broke out in 2003, our advisors advised us to tell people we were Canadian. Ashley's delightfully tactful brother Logan threw the aforementioned quote at the aforementioned sister.
