Three things...

This semester I will:
  1. Get better grades than Spencer does.
  2. Stop mentally using the words 'bite me' in unfavorable situations. This will be accomplished by:

    1. considering how I might better improve the situation to help the person, or
    2. verbally expressing the words 'bite me'.

The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
  3. Keep myself motivated. I plan to do this by remembering motivational quotes like, "Remember what Vince Lombardi said - if you lose, you're outta the family" and "Reach for the grass, it's more feasible than reaching the stars, and still possible after falling flat on your face." As long as we're talking quotes, here's a good one from a movie that was on late Saturday night: "Only a Carpathian would come back to life now and choose New York."

Update

Yesterday was a good day, it turned out. At about 7:00 last night, the list says I'm still principal horn in the orchestra I've been playing in the last three years. Another half-hour of impatient waiting (how long does it take to type a stupid list? Apparently 70wpm was not one of the job qualifications), I'm playing Horn III in the top band. Sweet!

So I say: "Farewell to you Indian Summer"

I love that song. Especially the recording of Frank Sinatra and Tommy Dorsey's band. The one with Ray Eberle and Glenn Miller's band is also a good one. I have a CD with both, should you want to hear it.
Ah well, summer is over and I am back in school. And ever so prepared, I might add. This morning I made breakfast for my mom and sister (both of whom are starting up at the U this semester), then showered and got a three-ring binder out of my closet so that I could put some paper in it. Then ran out the door (without a lunch) because I was going to (almost) miss the bus. Then I realize (after we've gone about five minutes) that I've forgotten my horn, and I might need it for rehearsals today.
I don't even know what groups I'm playing in.
Which brings me to the whole point of this blog. That was at 8:15 this morning. I still don't know. Good heavens, I had my audition a week ago Monday! Is it too much to ask that the suspense finally be over? My audition went well, so the hope is that I get into the top orchestra (and the top band would be cool too) -- I've never been so nervous about an audition before. I mean, nervous to the point that I broke down into tears the night before. Then again, I've never done so well either. (Just about started crying after I was done, for that matter.) But to wait a week and a half is about as much as I can handle. I don't know how many times I've stopped by the board this afternoon, hoping to see some new paper stuck to it, and frankly, if I did count it would be borderline OCD.
Maybe I'll go check again.

"Did you know we're putting coversheets on all our TPS reports?"

"Yes."

"Did you get the memo?"

"Yes it's right here. I just forgo..."

"I'll have someone bring you a copy of that memo."

"I don't need it I forgot to..."

"Good talking to you."

Your mission, should you choose to accept it...

If there was a comic book bubble above this little kids head, what would it say?

Denver.

If you have the means. I suggest going to the city of Denver.

"They're just like you, Ashley."

I think he wanted to say, "Where did you find these people?"

I don't remember her name. But I make it a point to treat Calvin a lot better than she ever did.

Internet...minus the virus

I'm at the City Library on 400 South.

My computer has been virused and I'm afraid it will explode if I turn it on.

If you have any information about how to de-virus a virus riddled computer please contact me by any means necessary.

The A/V guy is listening to Pink Floyd.

The Lonely Note

No, no this isn't a blues bar that I frequent. This is a blog that I stumbled upon in January. It is music news. The song of the week is a folk tune by Gordon Lightfoot. I know, I know, Michelle, I was giving you a hard time about the whole folk think Saturday. I'm sorry. I'll give it a try.

Because At This Point You Just Have No Choice

I'm telling you so you won't pay the painful and cosmic consequences: you just cannot let this summer end without watching this movie. I hate to be the one to lay down the law, but thus it stands.

I suggest you watch the DVD trailer and then you will actually be excited to submit to your unavoidable destiny.

It's actually quite pleasant, really. Real Russian and real Ukrainian abounds. Wonderful wonderful. Pick up a phone or catch a plane if you want to watch it at my house.
